Author of Shouting The Odds

Shouting The Odds, The Movie …

Any novelist who hasn’t fantasised about their book being made into a film is, in my opinion, not being entirely honest with themselves …

That said, I want to point out that this blog post is intended as just a bit of fun. So picking up the thread from a previous blog post, where I wrote about my affection for films such as The Full Monty, Brassed Off and Fever Pitch, the other day I found myself thinking about who I would cast in a film version of Shouting the Odds? So without further suspense, please find below my  first choice cast, listed in the order in which they appear in the book:

  • Robert Carlyle as Andy Cooper (circa The Full Monty)
  • Peter Postlethwaite as Ron Cooper (circa Brassed Off)
  • Angela Griffin as Rita Ferguson (Holby City, Coronation Street) – in a word, perfect!
  • Tim McInnerny as Duke (circa Rogue Trader)
  • Jim Broadbent as Glen (circa The Iron Lady) – a ‘shoe in!’
  • Sanjeev Bhaskar as Mr Manilla – ideally a mid to late-forties version
  • Paul Barber as The Reverend Des (circa The Full Monty)
  • Tim Healy as Big Les (circa Benidorm)
  • Sue Johnston as Daphne (circa The Royal Family)
  • Mark Addy as One-Armed Bruce (circa The Fully Monty)
  • Tom Wu as Sammy Chan (circa Kong Kong-British TV drama, Strangers)
  • Anthony Wong as Lee Chan (as above, circa Strangers)

Those of you who have read Shouting The Odds; and my Amazon sales figures show that there are a fair number of you now; do I have my fantasy casting right? Partly right? Please submit any casting suggestions of your own in the comments box below, I would be fascinated to read them …
